Lawn Tips

Use these tips to have a beautiful lawn

Watering

During dry periods water in the morning 2-4 times per week, typically 30-60 minutes per area. Check sprinklers while running often, for patterns and/or broken heads. Dry, brown areas may need more water, soggy areas a little less.

Core Aeration

Removes small cores of soil and thatch which breaks up soil compaction and removes some thatch. Recommend doing this right before power raking. Aeration is a very important part of lawn care. (Not offered by Leisure Lawn at this time).

Leaf Raking

Raking leaves offers many benefits both to your grass and the aesthetic of your property. A thick layer of fallen leaves can deprive grass of sunlight, which is the single most important nutrient for grass during the fall, it also doubles as a good workout!

Power Raking

Power raking or de-thatching should be done every 3-4 years, normally in April. Leaving clippings down or mulching does not significantly add to the thatch layer. Power raking is a very important part of lawn care. (Not offered by Leisure Lawn at this time).

Lawn Upkeep

Mow frequently, sharpen blades twice a year, do not scalp lawn, cut at 2-3 inches, use a mulching mower. (Most mowers can be converted.) Consistent mowing improves grass health and encourages the grass to pull nutrients from lawn treatments.

Soil Maintenance

Proper soil upkeep should be done yearly to ensure a strong and healthy foundation for roots to thrive in. Once healthy soil is taken seriously, the productivity and quality of your lawn and surrounding plants with increase exponentially!
